

Akkeshi
Founded in 2013 by the Kenten Company, the Akkeshi Distillery is sometimes referred to as the “Little Lagavulin” due to its resemblance to the famous Scottish distillery.
Located on Japan’snorthernmost island, Hokkaido, the Akkeshi Distillery lies further east thanany other distillery in the country. Production began in 2016. The town ofAkkeshi enjoys a cool, humid climate with frequent sea fog drifting in from theBekan-Beushi wetlands, covering the town. Fog and wetlands like these areessential for producing whisky with characteristics similar to Islay maltwhisky. The Akkeshi Distillery operates sustainably, working in harmony withnature and its lush surroundings.

Akkeshi Shosho
This whisky is composed of some of the finest single malts from Japan. For maturation, a selection of Mizunara casks, bourbon casks, and sherry casks was used. The blend is bottled at 48% ABV, in its natural form without any coloring or chill filtration. In 2022, it was awarded Best Blended Whisky in the World at the World Whiskies Awards.
Nose: The blend entices with notes of manuka honey and caramel. Hints of salted butter emerge, while orange marmalade adds fruity nuances
Palate: Akkeshi Shosho 2021 offers flavors of lemon and lime, with a sweet profile featuring notes of brown sugar
Finish: The finale is long and spicy, ending with hints of white pepper. A gentle bitterness and lingering citrus notes remain on the palate
Akkeshi Single Malt Taisetsu
Taisetsu, which in Japanese means “the greatsnowfall,” is an outstanding single malt that offers all the qualities we havecome to expect from this series – and even more. Both nose and palate arefilled with juicy mixed fruits, gentle umami notes, and a wide array of spices,leading into a crisp, medium-length finish.
Nose:
Citrus fruits such as Hassaku orange, mandarin, and orange. Gentle aromas ofDarjeeling tea mixed with honey and brown sugar, along with a warm touch ofviolet blossoms.
Palate:
Sweet and tangy flavors of orange and mandarin develop into peatier notes ofsoy sauce, herbs, and buttered bread – typical of the Akkeshi style.
Overall:
White pepper, lime zest, ripe mandarin, and a hint of spices complete theflavor, ending in a long and pleasant finish.
Akkeshi Single Malt Keichitsu
Bottled in 2023, this tenth edition in the 24 Solar Terms series captures the spirit of Akkeshi’s peated Japanese single malts. Building on the rich legacy of its predecessors, Keichitsu delights the senses with a harmonious balance of toffee, sea salt, bright citrus, and a subtle hint of cinnamon.
Named after Keichitsu, the early March moment when insects awaken from their winter slumber, this release evokes the gentle renewal of spring—making each sip a celebration of seasonal change and masterful craftsmanship.
Akkeshi Usui
The Akkeshi Usui Blend marks the second season in the 24 Sekki series, the unique Japanese seasonal calendar. Named Usui (“Rainwater”), this masterful blend combines malt and grain whisky, with over half of the malt spirit sourced directly from Akkeshi and complemented by carefully matured imported grain whisky.
Nose:
Lush and inviting, with vibrant notes of citrus fruits, raisins, cocoa, and creamy herbs
Palate:
Bright and juicy, featuring hints of Curaçao, lemon, lime, and succulent oranges
Finish:
Smooth and lingering, with whispers of milk chocolate and a touch of white pepper
