Moutai
Moutai is China’s most iconic spirit – a legendary Baijiu crafted in the town of Maotai in Guizhou Province. Produced by the renowned Kweichow Moutai Company, it is made from fermented sorghum, millet, and wheat, following an extraordinary five-year process. Distilled nine times and matured in traditional clay vessels, Moutai embodies centuries of craftsmanship, resulting in a spirit of unmatched depth, heritage, and prestige.
Moutai originated during the Qing Dynasty, when distillers from northern China introduced advanced techniques into local methods to produce a special type of Baijiu. Later, the government consolidated the local distilleries into a state-owned company, Kweichow Moutai. Moutai was used at official banquets with foreign heads of state and high-ranking guests visiting China. It is the only alcoholic beverage presented by Chinese embassies in other countries and regions as an official gift.
Moutai
Known by over a billion people, Moutai is the ultimate national drink in China. Elsewhere, however, this spirit distilled from sorghum and wheat remains almost entirely unknown. According to official records, this grain spirit was already mentioned during the Qing Dynasty (1644–1911) and continues to enjoy great popularity in China today.
